How to choose the right dog collar?
A dog collar should fit well, be comfortable to wear, and suit the individual dog in both size and construction. When choosing, focus mainly on neck circumference, adjustment range, strap width, material and fastening.
Start with measuring the neck correctly
Measure the neck where your dog normally wears the collar. Place the tape against the coat without tightening it. Then compare the measurement with the range for the specific size – choosing only by breed or weight is not enough.
Width and construction to suit your dog
For a smaller dog, a lighter and narrower collar may be more comfortable, while a larger or stronger dog needs appropriate width and sturdiness. Also pay attention to the quality of the buckle, the leash attachment ring and the overall workmanship.
For everyday wear and trips
A well-adjustable collar works for normal walks, quick toilet breaks and travel. If your dog wears it often, comfortable fit, low weight and easy handling when putting it on are especially important.
Collar or harness?
There is no universally correct choice. A collar is practical, for example, for quick walks or for a dog that walks calmly on leash.
