Dog Overalls
More coverage. More ways to use it.
Dog overalls and full-body suits are not just for freezing temperatures. Winter models protect against cold and snow, while fleece and sweatshirt-style suits help keep muscles warm during rest after activity. With coverage for both the body and legs, they are a practical choice for cold-sensitive dogs, long-haired dogs prone to snowballs forming on their legs and active sporting dogs.

How do you choose the right dog overall?
Dog overalls have more uses than simply protecting against winter weather. Insulated and waterproof suits can help in cold, snowy or wet conditions, while fleece and sweatshirt-style dog overalls are useful for maintaining thermal comfort during rest, for example after training or competitions. Their shared advantage is greater body coverage, including the legs. Choose the right model based on the weather, activity, coat type and whether your dog needs protection from the elements or a comfortable layer for warmth.
Winter overalls and snowballs in the coat
A winter dog overall covers the torso and much of the legs. For long-haired dogs, a well-chosen cut can help reduce snow building up in the fur on the legs and belly. This offers protection not only from the cold but also from uncomfortable clumps of snow that may pull on the fur and interfere with walking.
Fleece overalls and comfort after sport
A fleece dog overall is a comfortable layer after agility, canicross, training or a long hike. By covering much of the body, including the legs, it helps keep the muscles warm during subsequent rest and can be part of a routine focused on post-exercise recovery.
A fit that allows movement
With full-body suits, correct fit around the shoulders, chest, groin and legs is especially important. An overall should not pull during walking or running, bunch up or press into the armpits. Choose the leg length and fabric stretch to suit your dog’s build and the intended use.
One type of clothing, different needs: snow protection and recovery
If you need protection for winter walks, consider the level of insulation, wind protection and properties of the outer fabric. For dogs that develop snowballs on their legs in winter, the length and coverage of the leg sections also matter. In wet weather, check the actual water resistance of the particular suit – not every overall is waterproof.
For warmth after sport and rest between activities, a soft fleece or other recovery-style overall is often more suitable. Compared with a conventional sweatshirt, it covers more of the body and legs, potentially helping to maintain thermal comfort across larger muscle groups. Clothing alone, however, is no substitute for rest and other sound recovery practices.
When choosing a size, measure your dog according to the chart for the specific manufacturer. As well as back length and chest circumference, neck and leg measurements may matter. If you are unsure about sizes or cuts, use our Fit and Size Advice service available on product pages.
Frequently asked questions about dog overalls
What is the difference between a winter overall and a fleece overall?
A winter overall is primarily designed to protect against the cold and, depending on its construction, wind, snow or moisture. A fleece or sweatshirt-style overall is generally softer and more breathable and is useful for warmth, travelling or resting after activity. The properties of the specific model always determine its intended use.
Can an overall help prevent snowballs on the legs?
Yes. A well-fitting overall with sufficiently long leg sections can significantly reduce snow contact with the fur on covered parts of the legs and belly. This is particularly useful for long-haired dogs whose fur collects snow. Exposed parts of the paws can still pick up snow.
Is a fleece overall suitable for muscle recovery after sport?
It can be a useful part of post-exercise care. It covers much of the body, including the legs, and helps your dog maintain thermal comfort during the rest period after training or competitions. However, this does not mean that every fleece overall has been shown to speed up muscle recovery by itself.
Is a jacket or an overall better?
A jacket or coat mainly protects the torso and is usually easier to put on. An overall also covers the legs and more of the body, which can help with snow collecting in the fur, poor weather or when more even coverage is wanted after sport. The best choice depends on your dog and the intended use.
How can I tell whether an overall fits correctly?
Your dog should be able to walk, run, sit and move its legs naturally. The garment should not pull at the shoulders, press into the armpits or groin, or move excessively during activity. Check the leg length and always measure against the size chart for the specific model.
Are all dog overalls waterproof?
No. Fleece and some insulated overalls are mainly designed for thermal comfort. For rain or wet snow, check the fabric’s water resistance, seam construction and recommended use. The term “winter” does not, by itself, mean waterproof.
Can my dog wear a harness over an overall?
With many models, yes, provided the harness fits correctly over the garment without creating pressure points. Some overalls have an opening for attaching a lead to a harness worn underneath. Check how both items are designed and make sure neither layer bunches up or restricts movement.
