How to choose a dog harness – Complete guide
Choosing the right harness is not only about size or appearance.

Non-stop dogwear Ramble Harness is a comfortable and highly adjustable harness for dogs that do not fit standard harness shapes as well as for growing puppies. Both the neck and chest sections can be adjusted to the dog's individual proportions, while the wide adjustment range leaves plenty of room for growth.
Three leash attachment points, a practical handle on the back and a design that leaves the shoulders free make it a versatile harness for everyday walks, trips and hiking.
Enter your dog's neck and chest circumference. Measure your dog while standing and do not pull the measuring tape too tight. Measure the neck where the neck section of the harness will sit. Keep the tape close to the body without digging into the skin. Measure the widest part of the chest behind the front legs. Check the fit after putting it on. You should be able to fit about two fingers comfortably between your dog's neck and the harness. The harness must not restrict the shoulders or sit too tightly in the armpits. Ramble Harness measurements. Ramble is adjustable around both the neck and chest, so the size ranges overlap considerably. If your dog's measurements fit more than one size, the calculator selects the size in which both measurements sit more evenly within the adjustable range. Not every dog has textbook proportions. Some have a broad chest, others a stronger neck, and a puppy’s proportions can change almost before your eyes.
Non-stop dogwear Ramble Harness is a lightweight, comfortable harness with an exceptionally wide adjustment range. Its four adjustment points allow both the neck and chest sections to be adapted to the individual dog.
A large neck opening, overlapping sizes and a broad adjustment range make it an excellent choice for growing puppies, sturdier dogs and dogs that struggle to fit standard harness shapes.
Adjust both the neck and chest to the proportions of your dog.
A wide adjustment range and overlapping sizes leave plenty of room for a growing dog.
Each serves a different purpose – everyday walking, a tracking line or gentle pulling control.
For quickly holding, guiding or supporting your dog when needed.

Ramble is designed not to restrict your dog unnecessarily during movement.
The shape leaves the shoulders free and provides enough room behind the front legs, so a correctly fitted harness does not interfere with natural movement.
Strong, durable straps also help keep the harness stable on the body.
The result is a comfortable short harness for everyday walks, trips and hiking.

The sturdy aluminium D-ring is the main attachment point for everyday leash use.

The front attachment can provide gentle help with pulling control. When the leash tightens it helps turn the dog back towards you, but it does not replace loose-leash training.

The lower loop is designed for a tracking line. Its position under the dog helps keep a long line from getting in the way as much during movement.

The sturdy handle on the back lets you grab your dog easily whenever you need more control.
It is useful when passing another dog, near a car, in difficult terrain, or when you need to guide or briefly support your dog over an obstacle.

There are Duraflex® buckles on both sides of the chest, so you do not need to lift the dog’s front legs through the harness.
Slip the harness over the head, fasten it at the sides and adjust it to the dog’s proportions.
Once adjusted correctly, the loose ends of the chest straps can be threaded back through the sliplock to help keep the adjustment secure.

Closed-cell foam limits water absorption, so the harness does not become unnecessarily heavy when wet.

High-stress areas are reinforced with durable material to protect the harness from wear.

Reflective trim improves visibility at dusk, in the dark and in poor light.

Strong straps, an aluminium D-ring and quality Duraflex® buckles are built for regular use.
Choose Ramble if you have a puppy or young growing dog, need adjustment at both the neck and chest, have a sturdier dog, standard harness shapes do not fit well, want a handle on the back or need maximum individual adjustment.
VIEW RAMBLE
Choose Line Harness 5.0 if your dog has reached a stable size, the fixed neck section fits well, you want a lightweight versatile harness for walks, hiking and trips, and you do not need a handle or adjustable neck.
VIEW LINE 5.0
Choose Line Harness 5.0 if your dog has reached a stable size, the fixed neck section fits well, you want a lightweight versatile harness for walks, hiking and trips, and you do not need a handle or adjustable neck.
VIEW LINE 5.0
You want a shorter, sportier harness in which the dog can also work in pull depending on the activity.
VIEW RUSH
You regularly do canicross, bikejoring, skijoring or another activity where the dog is intended to pull continuously.
VIEW FREEMOTION 5.0We especially recommend Ramble when you need more adjustability than a classic short harness with a fixed neck section.
It is a very good choice for a growing puppy, a sturdier dog or a dog that is difficult to fit correctly around both neck and chest.
With puppies, remember to check the adjustment regularly. What fits perfectly today may be different in a few weeks.
Neck circumference:
Measure where your dog normally wears a collar. Pull the tape through the coat to the skin without digging into it.
Chest circumference:
Measure the widest part of the chest behind the front legs, close to the body rather than over the volume of the coat.
You should be able to fit two fingers comfortably between the dog’s neck and the harness.
The harness must not restrict the shoulders or sit too tightly in the armpits.

For Ramble Harness, choose the size according to both neck and chest circumference.
| Size | Neck circumference | Chest circumference |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 29–36 cm | 40–58 cm |
| S | 36–48 cm | 45–64 cm |
| M | 43–60 cm | 58–90 cm |
| L | 51–69 cm | 72–110 cm |
| XL | 60–84 cm | 74–126 cm |

With a puppy, it is not only the number on the scale that changes. Chest width, neck size and overall body proportions change too.
That is exactly why Ramble makes so much sense for young dogs.
Both the neck and chest sections can be adjusted continuously and the sizes partially overlap. This gives the puppy room to grow without automatically needing a new harness after every small change in proportions.
Check the adjustment regularly, especially during periods of rapid growth.
Some dogs do not like having a harness pulled over their head. There is no need to force them.
In the video we show a simple method for teaching your dog to look forward to putting on a harness or coat and to actively cooperate.
Machine wash at a maximum of 30 °C.
Do not tumble dry.
Yes. Adjustable neck and chest, four adjustment points and overlapping sizes make it a very good choice for growing dogs. Check the adjustment regularly as the dog grows.
Yes. The large neck opening and wide adjustment range are also suitable for dogs with a broad chest or less typical proportions.
Yes. Unlike Line Harness 5.0, both the neck and chest sections of Ramble are adjustable.
Measure the neck and the widest part of the chest and compare the measurements with the chart. After fitting, two fingers should fit comfortably between the neck and harness.
Three: the main aluminium D-ring on the back, a front point for gentle pulling control and a lower loop for a tracking line.
No. It can help with handling by naturally turning the dog towards you when the leash tightens, but it does not replace loose-leash training.
Primarily for a tracking line. Its location underneath the body means the line interferes less with the dog’s movement.
For quickly holding, controlling, guiding or briefly supporting the dog when needed.
After adjustment, thread the loose end of the strap back through the sliplock to help secure the setting.
Not as a specialised pulling harness. For intentional and sustained pulling work, choose for example Freemotion Harness 5.0.
Ramble offers much more adjustment and has a handle. Line Harness 5.0 is a simpler, lighter versatile model with a fixed neck section.
