Choose a life jacket according to your dog's size and body shape, how it will be used and how well the particular model can be adjusted. A properly fitting jacket helps the dog conserve energy while swimming, should not shift significantly in the water and must leave enough room for natural movement of the shoulders and legs.
Correct size and fit
The jacket should sit securely around the body and should not twist or slip while swimming. Always measure your dog according to the manufacturer's size chart and also check the recommended weight range if one is provided.
Buoyancy without restricting movement
Buoyant panels should support the dog while swimming, but the cut must allow natural movement of both front and rear legs. Not only the amount of buoyancy but also its distribution and the overall construction of the jacket are therefore important.
Handle and good visibility
A strong handle on the back lets you help your dog out of the water or hold them close to a paddleboard or boat. A bright colour and reflective details also make the dog easier to see on the water and in poorer visibility.
