How to choose a lick mat for your dog?
A lick mat works with soft food spread into its textured surface. The dog has to gradually lick it out of grooves and recesses, so even a smaller portion can take longer than when served in a normal bowl. When choosing, consider the shape, surface texture, size and how you want to use the mat.
Texture determines how the dog licks
Different grooves, ridges and recesses change how the dog reaches the filling. A simpler texture can be suitable for beginners, while a more complex surface can make the task last longer.
The filling does not have to mean an extra portion
You can use part of the dog's normal food ration on the mat – for example wet food – or a smaller amount of dog paste. It does not have to be additional food on top of the daily ration.
Mat, bowl or rigid holder?
