What should you pack for your dog on holiday?
For multi-day travel, it is worth thinking beyond just a leash and bowl. The dog needs gear for the journey itself, everyday life at the destination and the activities you plan. Build your basic kit according to where you are going, how long you will be away and whether your plans include hiking, swimming, camping or a multi-day road trip.
Food, water and everyday essentials
Pack enough of the dog’s usual food, favourite treats and a practical way to offer water both on the road and at the destination. A travel or spill-resistant bowl is useful, and on an active holiday you can add further gear according to the dog’s individual needs.
A familiar place to sleep
A travel bed or Vetbed gives your dog a practical place to rest in a hotel, apartment, tent, car or crate. For holidays, choose mainly according to packability, ease of cleaning and the environment where the dog will rest.
Gear based on your holiday plans
For days by the water, your kit may include a life jacket and dog drying robe; in summer heat, cooling gearmay also be useful. For an active holiday, adapt the harness, leash and other equipment to the routes you are planning.
